Gaopo Township (gāo pō miáo xiāng 高坡苗乡) is 31 kilometers away from Huaxi City (huā xī shì 花溪市). The well-preserved original flavor of the ancient ethnic group and the graceful natural scenery make Gaopo Township distinctive and mystical.

Gaopo is basement horst. There are deep valleys around the township, and in the center is a mountain. On the mountain, there is the Shimen Village (shí mén zhài 石门寨) of Miao Ethnic Group (miáo zú 苗族). At the entrance of the village there are two large stones opposite to each other, like the gate, hence the name Shimen, means stone gate. Entering the gate and climbing up the mountain, to the west of the cliff there is a bottomless chasm. You can have a bird’s view of Huaxi and Guiyang (guì yang 贵阳). On the huge rock beside the cliff, there are inscriptions on precipices “永镇边夷"(yǒng zhèn biān yí), which can be originated from Ming Dynasty (míng cháo 明朝).

Entering the valley from the north part of the mountain, you can see the red rocks. Therefore, the valley is called Hongyanchong (hóng yán chòng 红岩冲). The Hongyanchong Valley is more than 10 kilometers long, both sides of which are sheer precipice and overhanging rocks, with luxuriant bush and cirrus. Monkeys are playing, tens of waterfalls pouring down, birds are singing and flowers are blooming.

Along the zigzag path and climb the hanging ladder to the south peak of the valley, there are hills and flat land, there is the village of Buyi Ethnic Group (bù yī zú 布依族). The warmhearted Buyi people are waiting for the tourists at the entrance, singing songs and proposing a toast.

To the north of the Buyi village, there is a cave on the slope of the mountain. Outside the cave there is a underground river flowing from the south to the north. In the middle of the river, there is a upright cave, in which there is a natural stone bridge. Going through the bridge, there is a big hall, which is high up to 100 meters. In the hall, there are huge stone curtains hanging on the walls of the cave. Each of the curtains is more than 10 centimeters thick, white and crystal. Knock on the stone curtain, it will sound.

In Gaopo Township, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as the folk customs of the minority ethnic group. The unique flavor will make you forget to return.
