Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (GZHUTCM), now Guangzhou Universityof Chinese Medicine (GZHUCM), established in 1956, is one of the four oldest TCM institutes of higher education in China. It was originally administered by the Ministry of Health and the State Administration of TCM, and is one of the first educational institutes approved to award master’s and doctor’s degree in China. In October 1998, the university was listed as a key university by central and provincial government for developing its key disciplines within national “211 Program” (a program launched by Chinese Ministry of Education and aiming to establish about 100 internationally well-known Chinese universities in the 21st century) during the period of China national “ninth five-year plan”. In the same year, our university became one of the first national postgraduate clinical 

With years of striving, GUCM has steadily accumulated rich traditional Chinese culture, comprehensive study in Chinese Medicine, as well as in-depth and extensive research on Western Medicine and Modern Medicine. Over the past fifty years’ sustained efforts, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine has formed a complete educational system consisting of 14 colleges and offering 16 specialties including seven branches of learning such as medicine, engineering, administration, economics, science, arts and education. GUCM has established 4 national priority disciplines (Internal Medicine of Chinese Medicine, Clinical Foundation of Chinese Medicine, Orthopedics of Chinese Medicine and Gynecology of Chinese Medicine) and also enjoys the authority to confer doctoral degrees in 3 first-level disciplines (Chinese Medicine, Integrated Chinese and Western Clinical Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica). At the same time, it boasts 3 post-doctoral stations, 15 doctoral programs and 24 master programs.

Introduction to Programs
 
1. Study of Chinese Medicine; 5-year Schooling; Key Program of Guangdong Province; Bachelor of Medicine
Study of Chinese Medicine is a clinical medicine program. It demands the students to systematically master the fundamental theories and diagnostic and treatment skills of Chinese Medicine as well as certain knowledge of Western Medicine and its diagnostic and treatment skills; master the diagnostic and treatment skills of the familiar diseases of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Genecology and Pediatrics and the emergent treatment of their acute diseases, stubborn diseases and critical diseases; have certain research abilities. According to the market demand, there are several different directions in this program. After finishing the basic courses and part of the courses for specialty in the first three years, they can choose different specialties (Study of Chinese Medicine or Traumatology and Orthopedics) according to their interest and the social demand in the fourth year.
    Specialty of Traumatology and Orthopedics in Chinese Medicine is aimed to bring about society-oriented, senior clinical professionals with outstanding qualities. Students will build a solid foundation of Chinese Medicine theories and systematic Traumatology and Orthopedics (CM) as well as modern Traumatology and Orthopedics knowledge. They will master the clinical operation skills and certain scientific research abilities of Chinese and Western Traumatology and Orthopedics. At the same time of comprehensively mastering the diagnosis and treatment of the familiar diseases and frequently occurring diseases of Traumatology and Orthopedics as well as giving skillful treatment to acute, stubborn and serious diseases in this field, the students will master the fundamental knowledge and clinical skills of Internal Medicine (CM), Surgery (CM), Genecology (CM), Pediatrics (CM), Acupuncture and Moxibustion (CM), etc.

2. Integrated Western and Chinese Clinical Medicine; 5-year Schooling; Bachelor of Medicine
As a clinical medicine program, on the condition of sticking to the Chinese Medicine characteristics, it increases the ratio of Western Medicine courses and helps students to master the fundamental theories and skills of Chinese Medicine, Western Medicine and the Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine and cultivate the strong clinical operation skills and innovative research abilities.

3. Acupuncture & Tuina Massage; 5-year Schooling; Key Program of Guangdong Province; Bachelor of Medicine
As a clinical medicine program, it demands students to systematically master the fundamental knowledge and diagnostic and treatment skills of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and Moxibustion as well as fundamental knowledge of Western medicine, apply syndrome differentiation and correct treatment with Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion to familiar diseases, frequently occurring diseases and serious diseases, master a foreign language and cultivate certain scientific research abilities.
After finishing the basic courses and part of the courses for specialty, they can choose different specialties (Acupuncture& Moxibustion, Chinese Medicine Cosmetology, and Rehabilitation with Integrated Chinese & Western Medicine) in the fourth year. The specialty of Chinese Medicine Cosmetology demands students to master the acupuncture, moxibustion, formula and food therapy knowledge and cure the increasing beauty-decreasing disease, beauty problems, healthcare, etc. Specialty for Rehabilitation with Integrated Chinese & Western Medicine demands students to master the modern rehabilitation concepts, the frequently used rehabilitation treatment techniques, the rehabilitation evaluation and method of familiar diseases with Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine.

4. TCM Acupuncture and Tuina Massage (taught in English); 5-year Schooling; Bachelor of Medicine
As a clinical medicine program, it demands students to systematically master the fundamental knowledge and diagnostic and treatment skills of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and Tuina Massage as well as fundamental knowledge of Western Medicine; apply syndrome differentiation and correct treatment with Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and Tuina massage to familiar diseases, frequently encountered diseases and serious diseases; fully master the clinical diagnostic, treatment and health care skills in Traditional Chinese Medicine, like shadowboxing, qi-gong, Eight-section Brocade Exercise, etc with the emphasis of traditional Chinese healthcare skills and the clinical application of Study of Chinese Medicine and Study of Acupuncture and Tuina Massage in teaching.

5.  Rehabilitation; 5-year Schooling; Bachelor of Science
It demands the students to systematically master the fundamental knowledge of Rehabilitation Medicine, Rehabilitation Treatment and Chinese Medicine and can comprehensively and coordinately use various rehabilitation measures, such as physical treatment, homework treatment, language treatment, psychology treatment, acupuncture and moxibustion in clinical work, possess certain research abilities and can take up the rehabilitation treatment work after graduation.

6. Pharmaceutical Engineering; 4-year Schooling; Key Program of Guangdong Province; Bachelor of Engineering
It demands the students to master the fundamental theories and skills of research and development of Chinese Patent Medicine, modern pharmaceutics, Chinese pharmaceutics and preparation, quality standard of Chinese medicine and the preparation, pharmaceutical engineering and equipment. Graduates can undertake the new product development, workshop production design and technical innovation, production management and quality control, etc.

It demands the students to master the fundamental knowledge and practical skills of Chinese Pharmacy, Authentification of Chinese Medicine, processing, Chinese Medical Chemistry, Chinese Materia Medica and its preparation analysis, etc. Graduates can undertake the technical and administrative work in medical administrative departments, medical care departments, medical and functional food production enterprises, medicine circulation enterprises, Chinese Medicine research institutes and higher educational institutes. There are 3 specialties, namely Study of Chinese Materia Medica, Chinese Medicine Trade and Clinical Chinese Materia Medica.

It demands the students to master the fundamental theories and practical skills of Chinese Pharmacy, Materia Medica analysis and pharmacology, etc. Graduates can undertake the designing and preparing of the medical preparation, the analysis and examination of medicine and its preparation, the study of the effect of medicine and its preparation and guidance of reasonable clinical medicine use.

It demands the students to master the fundamental theories and experiment skills of Chinese and Western Materia Medica, Biological Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Analysis, etc. The graduates should be able to take up the research, development and designing of drug dosage forms and preparation, the production, preparation and quality control of drug preparation as well as medicine management and administration, etc.

It demands students to master the method and requirement for the standard cultivation of Chinese Medical materials, processing, authentification and quality control, be familiar with the characteristics, pharmacological effect and the preparation theories and skills of Chinese Medicine and have the abilities for the development and research of new resources, new products and new uses. The graduates will be able to take up the investigation, planting, processing, authentification, purchase, quality control and comprehensive development and reasonable utilization of Chinese Medical material.

11. Nursing; 4-year Schooling; Bachelor of Medicine
It aims to bring about international senior nursing professionals with clinical nursing, management, teaching and research abilities. Students are demanded to systematically master the fundamental theories, clinical abilities of nursing and English skills, as well as certain knowledge about modern natural science, human and social science and modern medical diagnostic and treatment skills. It includes two specialties, International Communication and Study of Nursing. It is open to male and female applicants.

12. International Economics and Trade; 4-year Schooling; Bachelor of Economics
Students are demanded to master the fundamental theories and skills about International Economics and Trade, familiarize with international trade rules, laws and the medicine knowledge and have good foreign language level. Graduates will be capable for the work in the economics and trade departments of government, transnational companies, and medicine enterprises as well as export and import, domestic trade, international business, e-business and marketing in related enterprises.

 It is aimed to bring about health administration professionals with a goodknowledge of economics, law and medicine as well as modern administration and skills. Graduates will be able to take up the work in health administrative departments of government, hospitals, departments of health execution, supervision and epidemic prevention and other related public health administration departments, and enterprises for administrative work, human resource management, health consultancy and education as well as marketing .

14. Applied Psychology; 4-year Schooling; Bachelor of Science
With the quickening of social life and the intensifying of competition, psychological problems and mental problems increase. The social demand for psychological health education and psychological consultancy becomes increasingly urgent. Psychologist is regarded as the most popular and promising profession in the 21st Century. Graduates of this program are able to offer human resource management and training, mental health education, psychological consultancy, psychological rectification and management consultancy, etc. in various schools, hospitals, prisons, and enterprises.

Students are demanded to master the fundamental theories, knowledge, skills and methods of computer hardware, software and their application as well as related knowledge about Chinese Medicine and modern medicine. The graduates will be able to undertake the computer hardware designing, research and development, network and information management, especially the development, maintenance, teaching and research of the application of computer in Chinese Medicine and medical fields. According to the social demands, students may choose different specialties during the latter period of learning.

Biology, Sociology of Sports and Sports Techniques as well as medical health knowledge and healthcare methods. It aims to bring about senior professionals with full mastery of English knowledge and skills, systematic medical foundation, solid English foundation and good abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. Graduates will be able to take up the translation, research, teaching, management, etc. in English and Medicine, etc.

III. Teaching Language
All the teaching is conducted in Chinese and the textbooks written in Chinese are used in teaching. (Exemption for English-taught programs)
 
IV. Examination and Diploma
After finishing all the programs and passing all the examinations, the undergraduates will be awarded diplomas. For those who can meet the requirement of “Degree Regulation of People’s Republic of China”, they can be awarded bachelor’s degree after the application is approved.
 
V. Enrollment Requirements
1. Senior High School Graduates or above (Bachelor degree holders can also apply for the postgraduate programs of our university. Please refer to the Admission Introduction of Postgraduates of our university for more details.)
2. Willing to abide by the student status management regulations and related regulations of the university.
3. Enjoy good health.
4. Non-criminal record.
5. Foreign students must have good reading, listening, writing and speaking abilities of Chinese and can read Chinese textbooks. They must reach level 6 of HSK of People’s Republic of China. (Exemption for English-taught programs)
 
VI. Matriculation Regulation
1.      Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Students and Overseas Chinese Students
1.1 Those Senior High School graduates (or equivalent to Grade 6 of high school) must take the Joint Entrance Examination to Higher Educational Institutes in P. R. China for Overseas Chinese and Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The registration time begins at the last ten days of March and ends at the first ten days of April each year. The registration places are located in Hong Kong, Macao and Guangzhou. The testing subjects include mathematics, physics (or history), chemistry (or geography), Chinese and English. Tests will be held in June. Applicants interested in our university please register it as the First Choice. We enroll both Arts and Science students and offer preparatory programs. For details, please consult www.ecogd.edu.cn. All the matriculated students must pay RMB 400 yuan as registration fee when they check-in.
1.2 Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students with degree of junior college or above and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students studying the undergraduate program in universities outside Mainland China may apply at the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Student Affairs Office of our university directly before July 30th each year for admission with entrance examinations exempted. (This is a conditional admission. After one year’s study, the students need to pass all the tests. After higher educational administration’s permission, these students will enter a higher grade to study.) The following material is required when signing-up:
(1) Proofs of educational diplomas or certificates and score reports
(2) Photocopies of passport or I.D. card
(3) Health certificate from hospitals at the county or city level or above
(4) 5 pieces of recent photos (33mm*48mm)
(5) RMB 400 yuan for registration fee
After the verification of our university, the matriculated students may register with “Entrance Notice” issued by our university.
2.      Foreign Students
Foreign students may apply at the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Student Affairs Office of our university directly for admission with the entrance examination exempted. The following material is required when signing-up:
(1) Proofs of educational diplomas or certificates and score reports
(2) HSK-6 Certificate (exemption for English-taught program)
(3) Photocopies of passport
(4) Health certificate
(5) 5 pieces of recent photos (33mm*48mm)
(6) RMB 400 yuan for registration fee
After the verification of our university, the matriculated students may be issued the “Entrance Notice” and “JW 202 Form” by our university. They may apply to Chinese Embassy for the student visas with the “Entrance Notice” and “JW 202 Form”.
3. All the matriculated students should register at our university at the decided date with “Entrance Notice” and pay 400 yuan as the registration fee. Those who don’t register two weeks after the decided date will be regarded as giving up the entrance qualification automatically.

VII. Tuition Fee and Accommodation Fee
(1) Tuition fee (in RMB yuan):
Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan: 5760 RMB yuan/school year/person
Foreign students: the Chinese-taught program: 20,000 RMB yuan/school year/person
              the English-taught program :30,000 RMB yuan/school year/person
(2) Accommodation fee (in RMB yuan):
Single-bed room: 16,000 RMB yuan /room/school year
Double-bed room: 19,200 RMB yuan /room/school year (Two students can share a double-bed room or one may ask to stay in a double-bed room alone)
(3) The food, medical and traffic expenses during the learning period should be upon the students’ part.
(4) According to the regulation of Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China, foreign students need to buy medical insurance which is valid in China each year.
Notes: 1. Students should pay the tuition fee for each school year at one time. Tuition will not be given back when students leave school or suspend the schooling during the learning period.
2. When changes occur in the amount of tuition and accommodation fee, the students should pay according to the latest standard.

III,Certificate
 
1. Long-term and Short-term Training ProgramsThe participants of 3-month or above programs who have completed all the required courses and passed the examinations will be awarded certificates of completion; those who fail will be given learning certificates. Participants who enroll on programs of which the training length is less than 3 months will also be given learning certificates. Taiwan students who have taken the programs will be awarded either certificates of completion or learning certificates issued by Guangzhou Chinese Medicine Training Center according to the same criterion.
2.Clinical Training Program for Chinese National Medical Qualification ExaminationApplicants who have completed internship and passed the examinations will be awarded learning certificates. Only the one with the learning certificate can take part in the annual Chinese National Medical Qualification Examination. And Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China will issue Certificate of Licensed Practicing Physician to the ones who have passed the examinations.

VII,Admission Procedures:
1. The enrolled Long-term Training students will receive Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW 202) from International School of GUCM.
2. Enrolled students should go to the local embassy of the People’s Republic of China with passport, Admission Notice, JW 202, Physical Examination Report For Foreigners, Blood Test Reports to apply for an x-status visa.
3. For the qualified participants for Chinese National Medical Qualification Examination, the International Training Office of International School will distributed Internship Notice and Application Form for Foreigners Participating Chinese National Medical Qualification Examination.
4. With above Item Three documents, students should go to the International School of GUCM to register and conduct application procedures of residence permits before the stipulated date in the Admission Notice or Internship Notice.
 
VIII,Notes
1. Short-term Training Programs are only available with adequate participants (at least 5 persons) of each course.
2. Due to various factors, for the exact begin date of Short-term Training Programs, please pay attention to GUCM web site.
3. Applicants can rearrange the beginning date after obtaining the full permission of International Training Office of International School of GUCM. Applicants should hand in the required documents for application by fax or email to the International Training Office 2 months before the exact rearranged beginning date.
4. All applicants are required to pay tuition within admission date. No payments will be refunded after the beginning of each program.
5. Participants should follow the teaching arrangements and comply with regulations governing students of GUCM.

During the training period, participants of Short-term Training courses whose length of training is more than 1 month will be given a grand tour in Guangzhou organized by the training center for free. The center can help to arrange tour in other cities, but the expenses should be paid by participants themselves.
