October is Breast Cancer Awareness MonthEarly detection is the best prevention!Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases for women the world over. One in eight women will develop breast cancer by the age of 80, accounting for approximately 15% of female cancer deaths. Early detection continues to be the best prevention from breast cancer, as the chances of a successful recovery greatly increase.The United PINK Campaign, launched by United Family Healthcare (UFH), helps raise awareness and educates the women of China about the rapidly rising cases of breast cancer. No appointment is necessary; simply ask about the flu shot at reception in the hospital lobby.SHU stocks Vaxigrip, a Pasteur brand, imported from France and available in both pediatric and adult doses. Vaxigrip is a 2nd generation split virion vaccine with good antibody response and protection; it does not contain thiomersal. The vaccine complies with the World Health Organization’s recommendations for the 2012/2013 flu season, and provides protection against the H1N1, H3N2 and B/Wisconsin/1/2010 strains. Please bring your vaccination record if available.The flu shot is recommended for everyone 6 months old and above, especially those at higher risk of infection including those with chronic conditions, the elderly, healthcare workers, caregivers of those at high risk and close contacts of children younger than 6 months.The vaccination is safe for women who are breastfeeding. However pregnant women in their first trimester should speak with their physician. If you have a severe egg allergy or an allergy to any vaccine component you should consult your doctor to see if the influenza vaccine is right for you.Early vaccination in October is advised when the vaccine becomes available.
