Note: Beginner’s class is for those without any Chinese proficiency.
Primary class is for those who know more than 800 Chinese characters.
Reading and writing class is for children of overseas Chinese and international students with certain speaking and listening proficiency.

IV. Note
1. The courses use “Experiencing Chinese” serial textbooks published by Higher Education Press of China.
2. Culture courses include Chinese culture lectures, calligraphy, painting, weaving and cloth-pasting picture.
3. In-city Activities include campus tour, visits to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Bird’s Nest, Water Cube, Shichahai Lake and Kung fu show etc.
4. The accommodation facilities are on the website.
5. If students arrive on registration dates, there will be airport pickup. Students can also come to the university by themselves according to “How to Get to BJTU” on the website.

TYPES:
1. UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM
Full scholarship for full-time master and PhD candidates,
not for joint education students
2. SINO-US CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The credit-transfer program scholarship is for American college students who study in China for no less than 3 months and whose course credits received in China are recognized by their hosting American universities.
VALUES OF SCHOLARSHIP
1. Master’s Degree:
- Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee and fee for accommodation on campus (one bed in a double room) and fee for comprehensive medical insurance
- Monthly living allowance: 1,700 CNY/Person/Month
- One-off settlement subsidy after registration: 1,500 CNY/Person
- Learning material subsidy: 400 CNY/Person/Year
2. Doctoral Degree:
- Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee and fee for accommodation on campus (one bed in a double room) and fee for comprehensive medical insurance
- Monthly living allowance: 2,000 CNY/Person/Month
- One-off settlement subsidy after registration: 1,500 CNY/Person
- Learning material subsidy: 400 CNY/Person/Year
3. Sino-US Cultural Exchange Program

CRETERIA & ELIGIBILITY
OF UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
2. Education background and age limit:
- Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
- Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

5. Applicants must not be college students in Chinese universities at the time of application.
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
The applicants must fill in and provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely (in duplicate)
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (filled in Chinese or in English)
Applicants shall fill in, print and sign the application form after submitting it online. CSC Online Application for Study in China is available in http://laihua.csc.edu.cn. BJTU’s agent No. is 10004
2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). University students or applicants employed shall provide proof of studying or employment on application. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
3. Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
4. Study or research plan: in Chinese or in English, no less than 800 words.
5. Recommendation letters: Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
6. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form printed by Chinese quarantine authority could be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take medical examination due to the 6-months validity of the medical results.
7. Photocopy of Passport
APPROVAL AND NOTIFICATION
1. The above mentioned application materials should be posted to BJTU before March 30, 2012.
2. BJTU will review all applications. BJTU will not accept ineligible applicants and unqualified application materials.
3. BJTU will send the photocopies of the application documents including Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, applicant’s highest diploma, Foreigner Physical Examination Form, Nomination of Accepted Students, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) (in duplicate) to CSC by the end of April 2012 for verification and approval.
4. CSC will send the final Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to BJTU.
5. BJTU will forward the admission notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the winners by July 31.2012.
6. Regulations for international students under the Chinese Government Scholarship Program will apply to the students under this scholarship scheme. Scholarship students are not allowed to change their institutions as well as their academic programs or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice.
