I.Self-expense Students who Want to Study at BFA

    1.Qualification for Applicants

    Self-expense BA students (length of schooling being four years): applicants with senior high school diploma and new HSK Level 5 (original HSK Level 6) need to pass the college entrance examination of BFA.

    Self-expense MA students (length of schooling being three years): applicants aged below 40 with undergraduate diploma and Bachelor’s degree, new HSK Level 5 (original HSK Level 6) need to have the recommendation from two associate or full professors and pass the postgraduate student entrance examination of BFA.

    Self-expense PhD students (length of schooling being three years): applicants aged below 45 with postgraduate diploma and Master’s degree, new HSK Level 6 (original HSK Level 8) need to have the recommendation from two associate or full professors and pass the PhD student entrance examination of BFA.

    Junior general scholars (length of schooling being one year): applicants need to have senior high school diploma or undergraduate diploma, new HSK Level 5 (original HSK Level 6) and certain professional background in film.

    Senior general scholars (length of schooling being one year): applicants need to have MA degree or the qualification for studying for PhD degree, new HSK Level 6 (original HSK Level 8) and want to have further study in certain aspect under the supervision of a Chinese supervisor.

    Chinese language general scholar (length of schooling between half a year and two years): applicants aged over 18 should have senior high school diploma or the equivalent qualification. The length of short-term schooling should be no less than two weeks.

    NB:

    1)Students for advanced study in film and students in preparation for the entrance examination for undergraduate program, postgraduate program and doctoral program without Chinese language capacity can first come to our academy to study Chinese language courses at different levels and training programs for HSK.

    2)Students in preparation for the entrance examination for undergraduate program, postgraduate program and doctoral program can first come to our academy to take relevant film courses for one year.

    2.Method for Application

    Self-expense BA students: Information concerning major, application, time and subjects of entrance examination can be found in the “Enrollment Briefing for Foreign Undergraduate Students of Beijing Film Academy”. Applicants need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn and download the document “Application for self-expense undergraduate students at Beijing Film Academy” in December every year.

Applicants need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn, postgraduate students enrollment or overseas students enrollment webpage and download the document “Application for Self-expense Postgraduate Students at Beijing Film Academy”, “Recommendation Letter” and “Enrollment Major Catalog for Foreign Postgraduate Students of Beijing Film Academy” in October every year.

    Self-expense PhD students: Information concerning major, application, time and subjects of entrance examination can be found in the “Enrollment Briefing for Foreign PhD Students of Beijing Film Academy”. Applicants need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn, postgraduate students enrollment or overseas students enrollment webpage and download the document “Application for Self-expense PhD Students at Beijing Film Academy”, “Recommendation Letter” and “Enrollment Major Catalog for Foreign PhD Students of Beijing Film Academy” at the end of December every year.

    General scholars: Applicants need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn and download the document “Application for General Scholars at Beijing Film Academy” and submit relative documents to BFA before June every year. Applicants should fill in those forms and send them back to BFA, or fax them to International School of BFA, or send them to ao.is@bfa.edu.cn. When the application is approved, the International School will send the JW202 form and the offer of admission.

    Chinese language general scholar: Applicants who want to study in spring semester need to apply between October and November; applicants who want to study in fall semester need to apply between April and May. They need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn and download the document “Application for Chinese Language General Scholar at Beijing Film Academy”. Applicants can also come to BFA to apply at the beginning of spring or fall semester.

    II.Students with China Scholarship who Want to Study at BFA

    BFA receives students with Chinese Governmental Scholarship and grants application of students sent by China Scholarship Council.

    Method for application

    Applicants need to submit documents to China Scholarship Council (CSC) through the cultural and educational institutions of their own countries. After the examination and approval, the documents will be sent to BFA. BFA will decide whether to accept the application or not according to materials from applicants. Students whose applications have been granted need to participate in and pass the entrance examination organized by BFA. Undergraduate Entrance Examination will be in February and Postgraduate Entrance Examination will be in January.

    III.Registered Degree Students at BFA who want to apply for Beijing Overseas Students Scholarship

    Applicants need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn and find “The Evaluation of Beijing Overseas Students Scholarship” and other documents.

    Method for application

    Applicants need to log on http://www.bfa.edu.cn to find out, download and fill in the “Application for Scholarship”. Under general circumstances, our academy only receives the application from degree students who have studied for more than one year at BFA.

    IV.Things Concerning Visa and Registration

    Students who apply by themselves should apply the visa in Chinese embassy (consulate) in their own country with offer of admission given by BFA and JW202 form. Students sent by CSC should apply the visa with offer of admission given by BFA and JW201 form.

    According to relative China’s laws and regulations, overseas students should enter China with their passport and F, L or X visa. Students wishing to study for more than one year should apply for X visa. BFA will help overseas students manage to get the residence permit.

    Please register according to the date on the offer of admission. The offer of admission of students who fail to show up on time without reasons will be revoked.

    V.Semester and Graduation

    Semester: an academic year consists of two semesters. The first semester (fall semester) starts from September to middle of January. The second semester (spring semester) starts from March to middle of July. Time between two semesters will be winter and summer vacation.

    Graduation: undergraduate students, postgraduate students and PhD students who pass the courses regulated by the teaching plan and succeed in their thesis defense will be allowed to graduate and granted the diploma respectively.

    Junior General Scholars, Senior General Scholars and Chinese Language General Scholars: general scholars who pass the courses regulated by the teaching plan will be granted the certification of training.

    VI.Charging Standard (Tuition, Lodging and Insurance)

    1)Film Major Tuition

    Application fees: 800 RMB for undergraduate students, postgraduate students and PhD students, 400 RMB for general scholars (including film major students and Chinese language training students).

    Tuition: 43,000 to 51,000 RMB each academic year for undergraduate students

    51,000 to 60,000 RMB each academic year for postgraduate students

    53,000 RMB each academic year for PhD students

    46,000 RMB each academic year for general scholars (52,000 RMB for applicants who want to study in Directing and cinematography departments)

    NB: tuition does not include internship fees, which charged according to the arrangement of different majors and the cost of the internship.

    2)Chinese Language Major Tuition

    Tuition per semester: 11,000 RMB

    Tuition per week for short-term general scholars: 800 RMB

    3)Medical Insurance Fees

    600 RMB each academic year for each student, 300 RMB each semester for each student

    4)Lodging Fees

    Standard Room: 50 RMB per person each day

    Single Room: 85 RMB per person each day

    If overseas students want to live outside of the school, they need to fill in the Application Form for Temporary Residence in local police station with the owner of the house they live in. Otherwise, they cannot be granted the permission for residence in Beijing.

    Overseas student’s apartment of BFA has a comprehensive set of equipments and convenient traffic. The environment for study and living is comfortable. In order to enrich the leisure time of overseas students, BFA will arrange two social practices. We warmly welcome overseas students who are enthusiastic about film and who want to study Chinese language at BFA.

    VII.Curriculum Arrangement for Chinese Language Major

    Classes will be arranged according to the Chinese capacity of overseas students. The Chinese language courses offered by International School include listening, speaking, reading and writing, comprehensive courses, HSK training courses and film language in Chinese.
