Located 230 kilometers east of Kunming (kūn míng 昆明), the capital city of Yunnan province (yún nán shěng 云南省), and neighboring Guizhou (guì zhōu 贵州) and Guangxi (guǎng xī 广西) Provinces, Luoping County (luó píng xiàn 罗平县) is home to one of the largest plantations of rapeseed flowers in Southwest China. Fields covered with golden rape stretch as far as the eye can see and form seas of yellow buds. Combined with a unique terrain dominated by karst features with small basins among mountain ranges, the place boasts very unique landscape features. On top of that majestic waterfalls can be found in the area. All of this makes Luoping a very unique attractive destination for traveling.

Yuanmou Soil Forest

The Soil Forest in Yuanmou (yuán móu tǔ lín 元谋土林), located in Yuanmou County (yuán móu xiàn 元谋县), Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture (chǔ xióng yí zú zì zhì zhōu 楚雄彝族自治州), is one of the most splendid soil forests in China, covering an area of 50 square kilometers. It was formed by geological movement and soil erosion one or two million years ago. It is named for its shape like immense forest and the main composition of the expansion earth. The representative landscape of the Soil Forest is distributed to Xinhua (xīn huá 新华), Banguo (bān guǒ 班果), Wanbao (wān bǎo 弯保) and the Tiger Leaping Beach (hǔ tiào tān 虎跳滩). The forest in these areas has distinctive features. Some are grand and spectacular, some are sharp and scraped, and others are of various shapes, like the waking lion, the tiger, the Roman Catholic Church, the Yuanmon Man (yuán móu rén 元谋人) and so on.

Luliang Colorful Sand Forest

The Colorful Sand Forest in Luliang (lù liáng cǎi sè shā lín 陆良彩色沙林) is a national tourist resort at the AAAA level. The whole Sand Forest looks like a Y. It covers an area of about 6 kilometers. The main tinges here are yellow, white, red and gray. The Colorful Sand Forest came into being about 340 million years ago. It was a physiognomic wonder resulting from the gradual influence of the impacts of earthquakes, the ejection of the magma, the movement of the earth’s crust, and the erosion of the wind and rain. It is also a whole consisting of all kinds of sand posts, sand peaks and sand screens. In addition, engraving with sand will sure give you a different feeling.

The Weishan Yi and Hui Autonomous County (wēi shān yí zú huí zú zì zhì xiàn 巍山彝族回族自治县) is located in the south of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture (dà lǐ bái zú zì zhì zhōu 大理白族自治州) in the west of Yunnan Province (yún nán shěng 云南省). Lying in the upper section of Ailao Mountain (āi láo shān 哀牢山) and Wuliang Mountain (wú liàng shān 无量山), Weishan is more than 54 kilometers from Kunming (kūn míng 昆明), the provincial capital of Yunnan, and 54 kilometers from Dali City, the seat of the prefectural government. It has under its jurisdiction nine villages, two towns and 82 village offices.

Gaoligong Mountain

The Gaoligong Mountains, (gāo lí gòng shān 高黎贡山), are a mountainous sub-range of the southern Hengduan Mountain (héng duàn shān mài 横断山脉) Range. It is characterized by its natural landscape of biological and climate vertical belts, various types of vegetation, and a great variety of plants and animals. In 1983, the Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve was established, and in 1992, the World Wildlife Fund, designated it a level A grade protected area. In 2000, UNESCO accepted it as a Biosphere Reserve member. The reserve is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas (yún nán sān jiāng bìng liú bǎo hù qū 云南三江并流保护区), established in 2003, and as such a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
